How to get two ads to appear in Google search results

In the last article, we talked about how to compete with WeWork’s insane budget.

In that article, I mentioned that you can have up to two of your Google Ads showing at a given time on a Google search results page.

Someone had a follow-up question asking how it’s possible to have two ads appear and whether there was a trick to it.

Well, I have the answer for you, my friend.

And there are no tricks (just some things to know).

Two Ads - Google Ads

The first ad shown in the picture above is a standard search ad. This is likely what you expected to see.

The second is a Google Map Pack ad, which is the area just below the top ads showing the map and Google My Business listings.

The Map Pack shows up when you do searches with local intent, i.e. “pizza restaurant in Chicago”.

So how do you get your ads to appear in the Google Map Pack?

Well, I asked my ad specialist to be sure (remember – always hire a pro).

He confirmed with the following answer:

Technically, the Google Map Pack ads are part of the search network. It’s just another text ad placement and format.

To run local search ads (map ads and pack), you need to geo-target the local areas, link the account with your Google My Business account, and enable the location extension.

For the keywords, you should focus more on the geo-modified terms (i.e. keyword + city name) or other terms with strong local intent (i.e. “coworking space near me”).

No tricks, no shady business.

Did any of those steps surprise or confuse you? If so, there’s a reason why I always say to hire a pro and don’t waste your money trying to DIY your advertising (on Google or Facebook).

As always, your questions are encouraged and appreciated. Subscribe below and join the conversation.
